Money saving measures

Now that I've decided to go to Helsinki, Finland, for the Worldcon this year, I have to make sure I can pay for it and not be totally broke afterwards.  So I am doing my periodic entertainment of working out ways to save money.

I have to rely more on the library and borrowing books from friends.  Can't handle the local prices for the next six months and I am trying to stop myself getting any more e-books OR Book Depository.  E-books seem to be becoming more expensive, which is hugely annoying since it can't possibly be more expensive to print them out.... yeah, right....

I could drop Netflix for six months also, once I get through watching Sons of Anarchy.  Am humming over that one because I need some sort of entertainment and am not sure whether iview could sustain me.

I haven't managed to get registered to use the train station bike shelters yet because the online form keeps saying the birthdate or security answer don't match with their records.  Well, I try not to lie about the birthdate because I will mix myself up, and for the other, it would help if there was a way to get reminded of what the bleeding security question was in the first place.  So gods know what I've done.   All this is so I can use my e-bike to ride a partial, when the weather's too hot or whatever to ride the whole way,  so I can at least get a cheaper fare.

Another money saver is not to get any more rats until after I go to Helsinki.  They are delightful little creatures, but they aren't cheap to look after if you do it properly, even though one's initial rat/s may well be a giveaway.  I'm already noticing the cheaper power bills.  My last one, which is not the real doozy  - that one comes next after two months of summer - was a third less than the same time last year.

I may also let the lawn (hah) get a bit hairier.  It suffers badly in the summer, well, all the garden does because I just have a hose and don't believe in trying to make the garden look as though it's in Mother England instead of an Australian summer.  So sometimes getting it cut during a heatwave can be the final blow, as I'm not here to make sure it's done right most of the time, and the cut can be a bit brutal.

There's not much to report in RL; back at work, doing okay so far.   It's still pretty quiet, no frantic pleas for overtime (just when I would have taken it, too!)  and quite a few people are still on leave, or going on leave.  I still haven't managed to get off the anti-ds (shrug, may try again later).   Did lose another couple of kilos and the rest is firming up some, more muscle definition which I am very happy about, but why do I have to have hairs up my nose?

Supernatural is back and I watched the re-start episode on Friday with a couple of fan friends, on a really nice big screen TV.  It wasn't a bad episode, but I was doing a lot of "why didn't they do that?" or "That was too easy," in my head.  I think I've been affected by the very realistic violence of SOA, which I'm not enjoying as much as I was for the first few seasons, but am persevering because there's only one more season to watch.  I think they should do a SOA/Walking Dead crossover; it's the natural progression!

I see in the news that there is a move in California for secession.  I would have said this was crazy and never happen, but then, this time last year I still thought the reason they want to secede would never happen!  Scary shit.  Hang in there, everyone I know in America.  Just....hold on.
